The name GAP or (The Gap) was chosen because the company, when it was established, was based on bridging the gap between the clothes of the rich and the poor, and the goal was to provide modern and high quality clothes. It was seeking to provide quality and fashionable clothes to people with low incomes.

Gap International was established in 1969 in the United States of America by Donald and Doris Fisher, who opened their first store in San Francisco, and the merchandise in the store at the time consisted of blue jeans, in addition to voice recorders and cassette tapes.

Then the second store for the Gap brand was opened in California in 1970, and by 1973, Gap had about 25 stores in the United States of America.
